Issue #10 of Panzerschreck is now available for immediate delivery. Here's the rundown of the content of the issue. After the Opening Rounds editorial, James Meldrum offers a series of variants for an SPI classic called Invasion America Goes to the Movies. Next up is Christopher Salander's Escape of the Goeben: Historial Variant Campaign Game. An Interview with Art Lupinacci, detailing the history behind the 3rd edition of L2's Streets of Stalingrad is found on pages 14-20, followed by Into the Breech Once Again: Extra Counters and Options for Streets of Stalingrad, by Gary Graber. Additional optional rules for the Jellicoe vs Scheer WW1 naval system is contained within the Jellicoe/Goeben Supplement. Following the Letters from the Front column, we're treated to four Short Takes: variants for Warsaw Pact (Jagdpanther), Global War (SPI), Carrier (Victory), and Siege of Leningrad (Minden). A new column, Observation Post, rounds out the 60-page issue. In the inaugural piece, the British gaming journal Counter is reviewed.
The first issue game of #10 is Operation Typhoon, designed by James Meldrum, and developed by Gary Graber. Op Typhoon is a traditional, operational level (corps/armies, weekly turns) hex wargame covering the German drive on Moscow in late 1941. The game is for two players, and contains rules for simple step reduction during combat, exploitation, leaders, weather, air units, and a variety of "what if?" options.
The second issue game is Sniper Attack, designed by Gary Graber. It is a simple, solitaire card game of individual sniper action during World War II. The object of the game is straightforward: eliminate enemy soldiers, while staying alive yourself. This would be an excellent "tray table" game, or something one could enjoy during lunch or on the train home after work.
The Jellicoe/Goeben Supplement contains 44 individual 2.5 x 5/8ths inch counters (and optional rules), covering the Great War dreadnought fleets of the United States, Japan, and the Russian Baltic Fleet. In combination with Jellicoe vs Scheer (from Panzerschreck #6) and Escape of the Goeben (from Panzerschreck #9), gamers are now able to recreate most any actual or hypothetical naval action during World War I. (Ownership of at least one of the afore-mentioned games is necessary to use this supplement.)
Last, but certainly not least, we're proud to have an Extra Counter insert for L2's Streets of Stalingrad included with #10. Art Lupinacci, the man who did the 3rd edition counter artwork for SoS, designed these 106 extra (unmounted) counters for the insert. Here's an inventory of what the counters cover (number of counters in parentheses): Moved (28), No Fire (20), Pavlov's House (1, plus variant rule on how to use the counter), Russian Dismounted (12), Balka (12), Opportunity Fired (18), Non-Phasing Opportunity Fired (12), errata counters (3). These counters are sure to please SoS fans!
